Have you ever ask yourself these questions?
- What the hell am I doing here?
- Is this really something what I want to keep doing all my life?
- But what else should I do?
Exactly the same questions Matego asked himself. I was lucky to make this unexpected acquaintance on a beach on Miyajima island.
The search for loneliness on Miyajima
Right now I am sitting at a beach on the island Miyajima. You will rarely find a beachside which is not covered by buildings, what makes this place a little bit special. The island has been a touristic highlight for decades, but if you have time, you can walk through the jungle on an old path and discover beautiful and lonely beaches. And that’s the place where I lie, feeling the hot sand under me and listening to the waves crashing on the beach, fading away. I take a breath. The silence this place is sending me is exactly what I need.
Find you own path
While I was completely alone at this beach at the coastline of Miyajima and was writing down the things that you are reading right now, a japanese family arrived at the beach. After a while, the man with his little son asked me if I wanted to chat with them so they have the chance to practice english. Matego told me that he did quit university at the age of 28 while writing his PhD-thesis because it didn’t make anymore sense for him what he was doing. With the little money he saved and the “experience” he had at this moment, Matego started his own business. From that point on he only wanted to do things which are satisfieing him completely. He created a completely new way of thinking of himself. At the beginning it was hard. He didn’t earn much money and his father didn’t understand him why he “left” his path.
Do something that satisfies you!
Matego encouraged me to set myself own goals and to create the motivation to reach them. The most important things are
- always remind yourself of them,
- don’t hide yourself,
- accept new challenges and the possibilty to fail,
- don’t be afraid to “leave the path”.
This story showed me something really important. If we have a goal and are willing to reach it, it doesn’t matter which background we have. We should welcome the challenge and believe in our abilities. The skills we learn out of interest are the skills which allow us to live our perfect day.
It all starts with an idea and a vision how we would like to live.
There are a lot of people who started living their dream instead of keep dreaming. It all starts with an idea and a vision how we would like to live.
If you also did experiences like this and you want share it with me, I am really excited to read from you!!

Ben build up a really beautiful blog belonging the topic of self-realization, how important it is to go for you own goals and that it won’t kill you to quit your studies if you are not satisfied with what you are doing. AntiUni (German only 🙁 )
